How do I transfer my domain to host with
Skydio?
If you did not register your domain name with Skydio, you need to go
to the place where you register your domain name. Normally you should
have a password to access your account. You need to update your domain
name's NAME SERVERS / DNS SERVERS.
Please update the primary and secondary DNS server to:
ns1.skydio.com
ns2.skydio.com
After you have updated your domain name information, it will need about
6 - 72 hours for your changes to be effective.
If you lost the password to the registrar site. You should visit their
site and look for information on how to retrieve your password. Normally
they will ask you for domain name or email address using a form and resend
the password to your email account.
How do I transfer my domain and extend
registration with Skydio?
You
may make an order here.
For .com .net .org and many other TLD (Top Level Domains)
If the domain name is already registered and you request us to transfer
it, we will send an email to the administrative contact email address,
requesting for initial approval for transfer. The person who receives
this email must reply to it within 5 days.
An authentication code is required for any transfer. It can be obtained
from your current registrar and must be entered in the initial approval
email sent to the administrative contact.
For SGNIC domain names (All domain names ending with .sg)
If you want to transfer a SGNIC domain name, you will need to an authentication
code. You can obtain this from your current registrar, the one that you
paid to register your domain name.
If you do not have or no longer have access to your email account, you
need to contact your current registrar to update your email address. In
this case, you need to contact them personally as your registrar only
know you as the owner. It is best if you are able to get the password
to access your registrar site and update the information. (Normally you
can do this by visiting your registrar's site)
After you have replied to the email. Both new and old registrar will exchange
information and complete the transfer. When the transfer is successful,
the domain name will be extended for one year from the expiry date. There
is no charge to transfer a domain name but a one year extension fee must
be paid to extend the domain name for a year.
If the transfer is denied, normally it's due to a few reasons.
1. The domain name is locked, the registrar or the registrant prevented
it from transfer. Please contact the current registrar.
2. The domain name is too close to the expiry date or registration date.
Every registrar has it's own policy. Example, they prevent it from transfer
"X" number of days after the domain name is being registered
and "X" number of days before it is subjected expiry.
3. The email requesting for approval is not replied.
4. The domain name already expired. In this case, you can only renew your
domain name with the current registrar. Otherwise you need to wait for
a period, about months after the expiry date, and re-register it. It's
important to note that you are in a risk of losing the domain name if
someone re-register it before you.
How long does it take to register a domain
name?
Normally, we will submit the registration to the registry within the
same day. And it will take about 1 to 3 days for the DNS servers around
the world to get your new domain name information.
I'm confused... who are Registry, Registrar
and Registrant? What is TLD?
Domain names can be registered through many different companies (known
as "registrar"). Upon registration of domain name,
the registrar will submit the information to a central governing
organisation known as the registry. Every top-level domain is
governed by different registry. For example, .com is governed
by InterNIC, .sg is governed by SGNIC.
This registry provides a central database of information for
the entire Internet. As a result your domain name information must be
exist in the registry and propagate over the Internet.
Registrant is the owner of a domain name.
Top-level domain (also know as TLD) is the last part of a domain
name. (For example, .com / .net / .org / .com.sg / .us / .com.cn). Each
country is assigned with their own TLD, .sg is for Singapore and .cn is
for China.
Who is SGNIC?
SGNIC is registry of SG domain names, appointed by IDA to manage
SG domain name.
