Introduction to VPS
VPS - Virtual Private Server is
a server virtualization technology whereby a physical server is divided
into several independent virtual server, with each virtual servers (known
as VPS) isolated from the other. Each VPS has its own dedicated resources
and operation system which gives user greater stability compared to traditional
shared hosting service. VPS gives users the luxury of a dedicated server
at a fraction of its cost.
Dedicated
Performance
Mainframe-like resource utilization, monitoring and control of hardware
fully partitions each VPS. As a result, each VPS has full dedicated-server
functionality: root access, ability to install any application or service,
manage firewall, and even run different OSs - Red Hat, Debian, Suse, FreeBSD
- on the same physical host. At the "root" level, a VPS dedicated
server is virtually indistinguishable from a typical dedicated server.
VPS behaves exactly like dedicated server
Has
its own processes, users, files and provides full root access
Has
its own IP addresses, port numbers, tables, filtering and routing rules
Has
its own configuration files for the system and app software
Use
own versions of system libraries or modify existing ones
Delete,
add, modify any file, including files in /root, and install own application
software or custom configure/modify root application software
Why
VPS?
Skydio has adopted Plesk Virtuozzo powered VPS technology for
our high quality server. Our VPS services offer a good balance between
total control (root access privilege) and a tight budget. Having a VPS
account is just like operating a dedicated server. Skydio's VPS
offers the following advantages.
Full
Root Access
You can set up any services, or daemons as you like, such as
DNS servers, email servers, web servers, java servlet, database servers
and more. Imagine having a dedicated server now at a very affordable price.
Freedom
to install any software and configure your system the way you want it.
Security
In a traditional shared hosting environment, one account can access other's
files when not secured properly. A VPS account (disk space, memory) is
totally isolated from other VPS accounts, because each VPS account is
located in its own "Virtual Environment". Other VPS accounts
can not access your files nor data in the memory. You will have your own
copy of Apache web server, DNS servers, Database server, and user accounts.
This VPS security model makes it ideal for secure credit card processing
in e-commerce applications.
Performance guarantee.
Skydio's VPS utilizes virtualization technology that provides performance
guarantee to your VPS account, so that no matter what other VPSs are doing,
your VPS environment will continue to receive guaranteed amount of CPU,
Memory and network resources.
Based on VirtuozzoTM technology, our VPS package offers a flexible, powerful
and full featured platform for a wide range of Internet applications.
