Amarillo PD plans to install docks across all police and fire departments

- New drone training and tests are underway thanks to money coming from
- APD's seized funds. The two new drones will
- replace older drones that don't meet security standards
- or can't
- withstand the often high wind we have in our region.
- According to APD Lieutenant Shane Chadwick, the drones will play a
- role in anything from minor disturbances to active crime
- scenes and visual aid for firefighters.
- One key feature includes thermal vision to be used during search and
- rescue or fire detection.
- But it gives us an overall view of situational awareness of what's
- going on. We can see a lot more. I mean, when you're standing on the street, you've
- just got that, uh, two, two-dimensional idea of what you can see.
- But a drone adds a third dimension, you can see from top down.
- Chadwick says these drones are task-oriented and designed to go
- from point A to point B, and any video obtained that does
- not include evidence is discarded.
- APD has plans to have a full fleet of new drones with
- landing docks at all police departments and fire stations across the
