From Site Survey to Dock Install: Setting Up Skydio for DFR Operations
Thinking about starting your DFR program? This short overview walks through how organizations work with Skydio on site evaluation and dock installation.
- [upbeat music] We know that DFR is
- going to change the way that you respond to incidents forever.
- And we are here to make sure that the process to get there
- is as smooth and as simple and as actually great
- as possible. My name's Graham Campbell, and we are the Skydio launch team.
- I think the goal is I want to work with the agencies to make sure that we're all
- tracking and alignment so that, like, the contract closes, we ship the docks, we
- install the dock, we're doing missions, like, within that week.
- The best we've ever done is four days.
- There's a lot of steps involved in this process.
- It's kind of overwhelming for people, and what we do is we kind of take the, the
- stress out of that. We, we check in with them, you know, weekly,
- uh, sometimes
- daily.

- When we started, we decided on Skydio, got our contract signed, and Kent came out
- for a site survey. It, it was pretty easy, to be honest with you.
- Like, hey, I knew I needed this type of power.
- I needed shielded cables, you know, up here.
- I just put Kent in contact with our electric company, the company that
- was doing
- the work, and kind of took me out of the mix.
- And everything worked out really well and I think our site is, is pretty
- top-notch.
- So right now we're in a onsite assessment.
- It's a site survey at the San Francisco Sheriff's Office.
- I try to at least have one, maybe two conversations before we come out
- here, and
- then after today, that's when he and I become best friends and, uh,
- he'll get sick
- of me because we're talking all the time.
- So some of the things I'll do today, I'll just take a lot of pictures.
- We'll take some GPS readings, uh, RF readings,
- just make sure there's no interference up here. There's a couple antennas.
- Power, internet, flat platform, way to get the dock up here, and
- then a waiver. That's kind of the top, my top five.
- And then after this, we'll put together a report,
- and then that's kind of their
- green light to move forward with site prep.
- Really good site. Not, not every site is like this.
- [laughs]
- Integrations is a large part of our work also.
- So customers can have, like, their CAD systems, their
- video systems integrated with our DFR command so they don't have to do...
- look at a separate screen. They can do it all from within DFR
- command.
- So after the dock is installed, then we have a training team that'll come
- out,
- provide dock training, flight training.
- Basically by the time the group leaves, the agency's ready to fly
- DFR missions.
- Our whole job is to meet with the customer, to get to know them, to
- build relationships, and to get them ready to fly docks.
- There is no one better on this earth at launching
- DFR programs than my team. They have all
- the experience, and they have seen and talked to hundreds of people
- from Alaska to Florida.
- If you're willing to do DFR, then we can get you there.
