LVMPD responds to gunshots and fires at Tesla service center
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers respond when multiple 911 calls report gunshots and fires at a Tesla service center in Las Vegas. On arrival, officers discovered several vehicles on fire as well as the word “RESIST” painted on the front doors of the business. The scene of this targeted attack was secured and a Drone as First Responder was launched to survey the scene and document evidence. Watch the full press conference here.
- We begin with that breaking news. Someone set multiple Teslas on fire
- overnight. It's the latest in a string of crimes
- targeting those
- vehicles in protests of Elon Musk and his work
- alongside President Trump cutting federal jobs.
- Now, we're gonna bring you some c- team coverage on this developing news.
- We have our Kristin Drummond. You can see her live at Metro
- headquarters.
- She'll have more on a news conference that happened just recently with the
- department letting us know what's going on with this investigation.
- But we're gonna first turn to News 3's Alora Lagarde.
- She's live at, uh, the, uh, scene of this crime with a breakdown
- of everything that happened and plus reaction, Alora,
- from people who live
- nearby.
- Yeah, that's right, Latoya. I'm here right now.
- Our crews have actually been here since early this morning.
- Personally, I've been here when it hit 8:00 AM.
- We did see a pretty large presence.
- It's started to dwindle down just slightly, a little bit.
- We're here right now on Badura Avenue.
- I just wanna give you guys a look as to what I'm seeing at this point.
- If you go zooming in close, you can see those scenes.
- We have Metro, we also have the FBI that were here, and investigators.
- Now, what people were telling us early this morning
- was one man sharing with us
- that he was actually supposed to get his Tesla from this collision center
- early this morning but obviously was not able to do so.
- And then people also weren't able to attend work today,
- Latoya. Neighbors say that they were woken up by this fire and
- shared this video with us. You can see this
- roaring flames burning multiple Tesla cars and
- firefighters extinguishing those cars.
- Large amounts of smoke was just pouring up into the air.
- It was a scary sight for so many neighbors.
- Now, one actually took us behind her home into
- her yard.
- I was able to stand up on a stool, and from there I was able to see the
- words "resist" that was painted on what appears to look like
- the
- front doors of the Tesla collision center.
- Now, this morning Metro Police did hold a press
- briefing, uh, today. Uh, also Elon Musk, the owner
- of that Tesla company, wa- uh, did send out a tweet today.
- I'm just gonna go into that tweet so I can read it to you.
- Let's go right back into this tweet that we did see
- on X today. He said, "This level of violence is insane and
- deeply wrong. Tesla just makes electric cars
- and has done nothing to
- deserve these evil acts." Now, to give us a little bit more of that
- perspective, we have Kristin Drummond who is at that,
- uh, Metro
- headquarters after the briefing. And Kristin, what did Metro tell us?
- Well, Alora, Metro Police wrapping up that press conference about an hour
- ago. We know that a suspect has not been
- arrested yet in
- this case, but they did say that this was a targeted
- attack on the business. Not calling it an act of
- terrorism, but we do know that the Joint Terrorism Task Force
- is right now part of that investigation.
- Metro Police sharing several videos of evidence as well
- as pictures. That includes videos showing the suspect
- by the cars around
- 2:45 this morning. That person, dressed in all black,
- moves around the lot located on Badura Avenue by Jones.
- Police say they received several 911 calls about the fire.
- The flames, as you can see in the videos, engulfed two cars and
- damaged five. The person is accused of using Molotov
- cocktails and a gun during the attack.
- Police confirm three rounds fired at different cars, as well as
- the word "resist," as Alora mentioned, was also spray-painted on the
- front doors. Police believe this was an isolated attack, but are working
- to collect evidence to not only determine a motive, but if the
- person did this alone.
- So right now we know for sure there's one individual. You saw them on, on camera.
- But in these investigations, we do not exclude the possibility
- that there could be
- someone assisting them or another individual as wal- in-
- involved as well.
- So we're still in the process of figuring that out before we determine whether it
- was a solo person.
- Now, investigators recovered one unignited
- Molotov cocktail in one of the
- cars. Right now they are processing it to determine what
- materials were used in that device.
- Now again, this suspect has not been arrested,
- so law enforcement is
- encouraging everyone to reach out if you know who this person may
- be or if you even have any videos or pictures of what
- happened this morning with all of those fire, or with all those Teslas set
- on fire. Reporting live outside of Metro
- headquarters, I'm Kristin Drummond.
- Back to you.
- All right, Kristin, thank you-
