FAQs about MegaDock

About MegaDock

What is MegaDock?

MegaDock is Skydio's autonomous docking station for F10 Lightrunner. It is the first dock designed to house up to five fixed-wing aircraft, and its Robotic Takeoff and Landing (RTOL) system launches and recovers them with no runway and no one on site. Between missions, MegaDock charges the aircraft and keeps them secure inside a lockable, climate-controlled container.

Does MegaDock require an on-site pilot, crew, or runway?

No. MegaDock launches and recovers F10 autonomously using Robotic Takeoff and Landing (RTOL), no dedicated flight crew and no extensive on-site training required.

Specs and site requirements

What is the size of MegaDock?

MegaDock has a 14.5' x 20.75' footprint and stands 9.5’ tall. It has two components: a 14.5' x 8' container, plus a four-panel, 9.5’ solid fence covering the remaining 12.75' that protects the aircraft on launch and landing. See MegaDock site readiness guide for details.

How do I launch an F10 from MegaDock?

MegaDock connects to your network over Ethernet. You select a mission remotely in Skydio Remote Flight Deck, and F10 launches from MegaDock autonomously; no one needs to be on site.

What kind of internet connection is required at MegaDock’s site?

MegaDock requires a hardwired Cat6 connection up to 1 Gbps. Higher network speeds are required as your fleet size, usage, and video quality increases. We recommend sizing your network for the fleet you’d like to one day operate, not necessarily the fleet you initially purchase. See MegaDock site readiness guide for details.

What weather can MegaDock withstand?

MegaDock is IP54 rated when operational, IP55 in standby, withstands temperatures from -4°F to 131°F, wind speeds up to 110mph when anchored, and windspeeds up to 160mph with partial disassembly.

In what conditions can MegaDock launch and recover F10?

MegaDock can launch and recover F10 in the conditions the aircraft is rated to fly in. Wind is the primary limit, at a maximum of 27 mph.

How long does it take to charge F10 in MegaDock?

F10 charges in approximately 45 minutes. High or low ambient temperatures may increase this time.

What are the power requirements and backup options for MegaDock?

MegaDock requires a dedicated 100 A circuit at 200–240 V AC, 60 Hz, hardwired with a neutral, and draws up to 18 kW at peak. There's no built-in battery backup. If you need one, install a generator or battery system upstream of MegaDock during site preparation. See MegaDock tech specs for details.

Deployment and maintenance

What’s involved in deploying MegaDock?

Deployment takes two days. A tilt-bed truck delivers and places MegaDock in its deployment location, if the deployment location is truck accessible. If the truck cannot drop off MegaDock (i.e. space constraints, elevated site) then a forklift or crane will emplace MegaDock.

After MegaDock is in its deployment location, the two Skydio Deployment Engineers will oversee:

  1. The electrician connecting power from the local disconnect to MegaDock’s breakerbox
  2. Building the fence
  3. Connecting all dock internal electronics including the HVAC, server rack, and weather sensors
  4. Bringing MegaDock online with the customer provided network
  5. Connecting F10s, MegaDock, and cloud, including a set up flight
Can MegaDock be moved or relocated?

MegaDock can be re-deployed with Skydio Deployment Engineer support, but it is not designed to be moved, and then operated, without Skydio support. If your site isn't ready at delivery, MegaDock can be stored and installed later. Contact your account team for more information.

How is MegaDock maintained?

MegaDock is maintained with a combination of customer, Skydio, and third party support.

  • Customers inspect MegaDock and their aircraft every six months, or when prompted by a health alert in Skydio Cloud.
  • Skydio performs annual service and troubleshoots issues.
  • Skydio contracts specialized third-party technicians for HVAC, garage door, and robot arm maintenance that cannot be accomplished by Skydio technicians.

Security

How is MegaDock secured, and does it include cameras?

MegaDock is built for unattended operation at remote sites. Its lockable container protects the aircraft, robot arm, and electrical systems. The enclosed launch-and-recovery area helps prevent unauthorized access to sensitive equipment. Two camera feeds are available to authorized users through Skydio Cloud: an interior camera for aircraft inspection and visibility into the robotic arm and storage nests, and an exterior camera covering the launch-and-recovery area.

How does MegaDock handle flight data?

MegaDock connects to Skydio Cloud software over your network, allowing you to conduct remote operations, viewing of live video feeds, fleet management, and media transfer. Access to aircraft and mission data is governed by your Skydio organization's configured user permissions. For encryption, storage, retention, residency, and compliance details, see the Skydio Security Trust Center.
