OKC police and fire coordinate on shared drone response

In Oklahoma City, police and fire departments run a single collaborative drone program, launching a drone within seconds of a 911 call so responders have eyes on the scene before they arrive. The drones, equipped with thermal cameras, can search large areas in seconds or minutes, work that used to take hours, and have already helped locate people in water rescues. Fire department dispatchers pilot their own drones, an approach officials say is almost unheard of nationally and has made the program one of the most widely adopted by responders in the country. With city council authorization for up to 50 docks, OKC is adding 10 new drone docks a year for the next five years.
