Successful demonstration of disaster response at Tokyo Port Terminal

Synopsis

Tokyo Port Terminal manages a vast site spanning Tokyo Bay, so in the event of a disaster, it is necessary to quickly check the situation on the other side of the wharf. Until now, staff would go to the site, covering ~495,700 square meters, to check the situation on the other side of the shore, but this required time, and there was a risk of secondary disasters occurring when staff went to the site during a disaster. Another issue was ensuring means of communication in the event of heavy rain or an earthquake.

NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) successfully conducted a demonstration experiment of rapid situation confirmation during disasters utilizing Skydio X10, which has a high-performance zoom function, Skydio Dock for X10, a drone port capable of automatic takeoff and landing, and Starlink Business, which enables high-speed, low-latency communications even during disasters, regardless of the situation on the ground. The demonstration included 63 flights over five days at the Tokyo Port Pier, located in a densely populated area close to Haneda Airport.
