Drone helps deputies uncover hidden suspect after violet chase

Synopsis

Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies were part of a multi-agency manhunt following a domestic violence and kidnapping incident that escalated into a high-speed pursuit. After the suspect abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot into dense brush, ground units—including K9 teams—struggled to locate him amid confusion and difficult terrain.

From above, the department’s Drone as First Responder (DFR) unit provided critical oversight. Using thermal imaging, the drone operator spotted a heat signature concealed deep in heavy vegetation, and with clear communication and aerial direction, the drone team guided deputies through the thick brush.

Despite limited visibility and communication challenges, the team achieved a safe and successful capture without further escalation.
