Philadelphia boosts public safety with DFR program

Synopsis

In July 2024, the Philadelphia Police Department launched its Skydio Drone as First Responder (DFR) program, responding to critical incidents such as a plane crash in a densely populated neighborhood, the search for a missing child in a crowd of more than 17,000 people, and providing real-time intelligence to both patrol and specialized units during complex operations. The program also played a key role in the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl celebration, monitoring large crowds to keep fans safe. With strong early results, the UAS Operations Unit is demonstrating how DFR delivers an added layer of safety and responsiveness for the people of Philadelphia.
