Cobb County Sheriff's Office responds to unauthorized drone during MLB All-Star Game
During the MLB All-Star Game, the Cobb County Sheriff's Office responded to an unauthorized drone entering restricted airspace by deploying Skydio X10. While ground teams moved to intercept the operator, X10 provided immediate aerial overwatch, delivering real-time visual identification that was shared with responding officers and capturing aerial evidence throughout the incident. The operation demonstrated how autonomous drones can strengthen counter-UAS missions by enhancing situational awareness and supporting coordinated responses at major events.
- What made the All-Star game different from a normal Braves game was we knew
- there was a high likelihood of having protected persons coming in to watch the
- games.
- For this event specifically we realized that with the threat landscape changing
- we needed to have a much more robust program and a much better plan to protect
- the stadium.
- What occurred during the game was we got a detection for a drone flying into
- the stadium somewhere around the third inning.
- We were able to get what type of drone it was, the exact drone location, what
- altitude it was operating at,
- as well as the controller location. While our ground intercept teams were
- responding we were able to get our X10 up in the air and they were able to
- orient themselves on the operator within about 30 seconds of launch.
- That now gave our ground intercept teams exactly who they were looking for.
- They had a picture of the exact person that was able to be distributed to them
- and now we're also documenting evidence to show that he was operating.
- Drones should absolutely be a part of your overwatch for major events and they
- can also be tasked with your counter UAS mission.
