Drone helps Wichita PD respond to wellness check on suicidal subject

Synopsis

When Wichita Police arrive on scene at night, they encounter a man in crisis standing on a garage roof, holding a firearm. Unable to approach safely, they launched the Skydio X10 drone equipped with a spotlight and speaker.

Keeping officers at a safe distance, the drone provided situational awareness with real-time visuals while officers used its speaker to talk to the individual. Through effective crisis negotiations, they convinced him to drop the weapon, answer his phone, and ultimately accept the help he needed.
