Remote drone operations in Tokyo’s underground tunnels

Deep beneath Tokyo Station, where there is no cellular signal, docomo sky demonstrated remote drone operations to support underground infrastructure inspection.
The test was part of an ongoing initiative launched in 2024 by Metropolitan Expressway Co., Ltd. and its disaster prevention partners to evaluate advanced technologies in challenging environments.
Using Skydio X10, the docomo sky team remotely piloted a drone from their headquarters into the tunnel environment. Through their network integration technology, they enabled autonomous flight and centralized data management despite the lack of connectivity.
The demonstration shows how drones can safely inspect underground infrastructure where traditional inspections are difficult and connectivity is unavailable.
