About the role:  Skydio drones are already having an impact on the war in Ukraine, and this role offers an opportunity to become a founding member of the Skydio engineering team in Ukraine!  As a software engineer at Skydio, you will be responsible for the development, testing, and improvement of Skydio products.  You will leverage Skydio’s leading edge capabilities to deliver features of critical importance. We're looking for a software engineer who is excited to help design, develop, and deliver drone command and control software.

How you’ll make an impact: 

  • Adapt Skydio products for the unique in-country needs in Ukraine
  • Drive Skydio’s understanding of the customer’s use case and regional requirements, identify metrics of success, and conduct Proofs-of-Concept (POCs) and relevant field trials
  • Work with local partners to expand the integrations and capabilities of our autonomous vehicles
  • Support emerging needs from user feedback and propose new technical solutions or directly support any technical issues
  • Design & iterate on custom user interfaces for drone control
  • Work across technical and non-technical stakeholders to collaborate on designing and building best in class drone control software
  • Rapidly prototype and develop new solutions to complex challenges and take ownership of those prototypes as they mature into robust commercial products

What makes you a good fit: 

Requirements

  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Ukrainian
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% of the time
  • Ability and willingness to obtain drone pilot license or equivalent certification
  • Must be physically located in Kyiv or Lviv

Experience & Skills

  • Highly curious, creative, and able to communicate concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Experience using autonomous robotic systems and protocols, e.g., MAVLink, PX4, ROS
  • Even better: Working experience building robotics or unmanned systems software
  • Familiarity with networking or distributed systems
  • Experience gathering user experience feedback and improving software from constructive criticism
  • Even better: Experience developing Ground Control Station (GCS) software for robots
  • Background in wireless & wired networking, video, and real-time communication is a plus
  • Ability to create your own tools and automate your workflow with scripts.
