About the Role
Skydio is seeking a self-motivated and highly driven Sr. Technical Trainer, Field Services with a deep sense of ownership and a strong background in field services and technical training. In this role, you will collaborate with curriculum developers in order to design, develop, and deliver cutting-edge certification programs that empower technicians to deploy and maintain Skydio Dock systems successfully. You’ll take pride in mastering our products inside and out, and even more so in translating that expertise into accessible, scalable educational content.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Training, this strategic and hands-on role will be central to ensuring the success of Skydio’s field-based teams and partners. You’ll work closely with our Remote Operations team and other cross-functional partners to distill complex deployment procedures into structured, high-impact training and certification programs.
Location: Hybrid, San Mateo, CA (remote ok. In-office preferred)
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Lead the delivery of Skydio’s Field Service and Deployment Certification Program
- Train and certify internal employees and external partners for roles such as Deployment Engineers, Deployment Technicians, and Field Service Technicians
- Collaborate with curriculum developers to develop robust curriculum and high-quality training materials that reflect the technical and procedural demands of Skydio Dock deployments
- Evaluate training effectiveness through hands-on demos, assessments, and field evaluations; identify skill gaps and refine materials accordingly
- Continuously enhance program content to reflect new product launches, best practices, and evolving customer needs.
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, digestible modules for diverse learner audiences
- Communicate program goals, outcomes, and improvements effectively across the organization
- Act as the subject matter expert for Skydio Dock systems, proactively identifying and clarifying areas of technical ambiguity
- Collaborate with stakeholders in Customer Success, Support, Engineering, Product Management, and Product Marketing to align training with operational goals and product roadmaps
What Makes You a Strong Fit
- Proven track record building and leading technical certification programs, preferably in a field services or deployment setting
- 3+ years of experience in technical training, and curriculum development
- Experience delivering training on both hardware and software products, ideally in IoT, robotics, or similar fields
- Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously, manage multiple projects, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient in tools such as Google Suite (especially Sheets and Docs), and other collaboration tools
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management
- Experience working cross-functionally across engineering, product, and go-to-market teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong customer-centric mindset
- Willingness to travel up to 50% to conduct training sessions and support field deployments
Nice-to-haves
- Hands-on experience with UAS (Uncrewed Aircraft Systems) and Dock/remote operations
- Experience working with IoT devices, including setup, deployment, and maintenance
- Familiarity with collaborative tools like Notion, Confluence, or similar platforms
Compensation: At Skydio, our compensation packages for regular, full-time employees include competitive base salaries, equity in the form of stock options, and comprehensive benefits packages. Compensation will vary based on factors, including skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience. Relocation assistance may also be provided for eligible roles. The annual base salary range for this position is $115,000-$140,000*.
