Drone as First Responder: Changes in Policing, Changes in Prosecution

Drones are showing up on more 911 calls, which means prosecutors are seeing more drone evidence in more cases. In partnership with the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA), this session walks through a live Drone as First Responder (DFR) demo and the legal questions that come with it. Ryan Kao, Skydio Director of Public Safety Strategy and Legal Counsel and a former San Francisco prosecutor, and Colin Romberger, Skydio Solutions Engineering Manager, fly real missions from a rooftop dock in a cross-country demo. You'll watch a drone launch in three clicks, track a vehicle, clear a parking structure with thermal, search a wooded area, and upload evidence to evidence.com. Then the session covers how to analyze drone footage under the Fourth Amendment, defend against motions to suppress, and authenticate video at trial. The session closes with Q&A.
