TAKING FLIGHT: Our newly formed Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Unit is training! They were flying high in County of Santa Clara on Tuesday. It’s been a long road to get off the ground, but soon this team will be Federal Aviation Administration certified! Then it’s onward to more advanced training. Leveraging this crime-fighting technology will improve community and deputies’ safety. Our fleet of #American drones by local company, Skydio, are buzzing. We can’t wait to have more eyes in the sky to aid in investigations and keep you safe.

Giving the Skydio X10D a good test of its IP rating during our flying in Waiouru today. Some strong wind and misty rain, but the X10D got the job done and made it home no problem. It looks like it is a genuine leap forward in capability compared to its predecessor. Looking forward to pushing it to its limits again tomorrow.
I am pleased to announce the latest edition to District 7 UAS fleet. The #Skydio dock. As the next district to welcome the dock to our fleet, its capabilities allow us to deploy it for security, routine inspections, and/or increasing our situational awareness while decreasing our response time in areas more remote/dangerous. This unit will soon be headed to an project that can benefit from a round the clock inspector. Allowing us to captures videos and photos on demand. It’s thermal capabilities will also prove useful where tracking subjects may give my coworkers insight into behavioral patterns and beneficial construction impacts.
This is one of the most busy weekends of the year. Historically, safety during these celebrations have always been a concern voiced by residents and the media. I want all New Yorkers to know that not only is NYPD excited to observe the popular cultural events of this weekend, but we will also be utilizing every resource available to keep all safe. Our drones will be in the air, our faithful Community Response Teams will be patrolling the streets, our disciplined Strategic Response Group will be on hand, our Emergency Service Unit will be on standby, and of course our Patrol Officers will be handling those 911 and 311 calls in a timely manner. I wish everyone a safe weekend!

Without a doubt, the addition of Skydio drone technology is a game changer for us on Miami Beach. It’s one more tool that our senior leadership can use to properly assess situations and make resource allocation decisions with better clarity and certainty.
